Registered Training Organisations (RTO) have quality standards that need to be met on both an organisational level, as well as for the courses that are being delivered. Among the different standards are requirements for data reporting on all nationally recognised training activity.
AVETMISS stands for the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard. It is a national data standard that ensures consistent and accurate information of students/learners is captured and reported. This data is reported to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) who are the custodian of this collection.
The following Fields capture:
1. Who they are
Age, gender and other demographic information
Indigenous and disability information
Geographic location
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
2. Where they study
Type of provider, i.e. Private RTO
Location of training delivery
3. What they study
Training activity undertaken in units of competency as part of a qualification, course or skill set
How it was studied, i.e. workplace, on campus
How it was funded
The results/outcome obtained for each unit of competency
All AVETMISS required Fields for all national and state collection standard are conveniently collected in Wisenet LRM. Fields can be updated in bulk by using our Bulk Update options. Use our Field Guidelines to see which fields are specific to AVETMISS under each section of Wisenet LRM.
The collected data in Wisenet LRM can then be exported into the required AVETMISS format for the selected reporting body and reporting period. You have the option to either view Exports online or get it emailed to the address specified when you run the export.
The more often reporting is done, the more accurate the data will be. Wisenet student management system has a number of Reports available to help you check for errors and we highly recommend making use of our Reports feature to check your data consistency during reporting and submission.
Take advantage of Wisenet’s Task feature as well as Learncycle feature to help you streamline a process for frequent validation and reporting for both National and State.
Remember that the data submission and validation process is different for National and each State. Follow the specific funding body’s defined process.
For National submissions upload and validate using the AVS system
For Victoria login to the SVTS system. If there are validation issue then resolve using SVTS Validation Errors
For Queensland login to the QLD system. If there are validation issue then resolve using Queensland Validation Errors
Here are some benefits of reporting to NCVER quarterly:
Learners will have their USI Transcripts updated more frequently with nationally recognised training appearing on USI Transcripts around six weeks after each quarterly collection period
The USI website will include the latest available quarterly data
Stay on top of your reporting requirements rather than have a huge job at the end of year
